This Austrian 1 Ducat coin is produced by the Viennese Mint. A particularly interesting detail about this coin is that the carat of the gold is much higher than other European gold coins. They are produced in 23.6 carat (a fineness of 0.986) and are very thin at 0.8mm, similar to many medieval coins. Ducat coins have been issued in Austria since at least 1612. The last regular issue of the Austrian 1 Ducat was in 1914, and all Ducats dated 1915 are restrikes. One Ducat coins dated 1915 are still being produced by the Austrian Mint today, alongside their modern Philharmoniker coins. The design shows the laureate head of Emperor Franz Joseph I on the obverse and an image of the crowned imperial eagle on the reverse.
