The Austrian Philharmoniker coin was first minted in 1989 by the Austrian Mint, following suit from Canada and South Africa. This one ounce gold coin was one of the world's most popular during the nineties and displays an award winning depiction of an assortment of musical instruments, including violins, a harp and a Viennese horn. The obverse of the coin pays homage to the great organ of the Musikverein concert hall in Vienna.
The Philharmonic is minted in 24ct and originally had a face value of 2000 Austrian Schillings. The face value changed to 100 Euros in 2002, after the introduction of the euro currency.
The design of the coin does not change each year, other than the year of issue, this is a brand new 2022 coin.
