The 1989 Gold Proof Sovereign was minted to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the first sovereign, minted in 1489 for Henry VII. The coin features a picture of his majesty King Henry VII, on a throne with his Royal Sceptre. On the obverse is the Tudor Rose with the heraldic arms in the centre.
The British £5 gold coin has been released by the Royal Mint on an annual basis since 1984, with a few coins from a variety of earlier years. The £5 coins are produced to both "Proof" and "Brilliant Uncirculated" standard, although the BU coins have not been issued since 2012.
